The Christian Kingdom College-Harrisonburg extension made a new beginning this Fall, 2008, by moving its classroom to the Festival Conference & Student Center on the campus of James Madison University, on Sept. 16.  The new meeting place was on the first floor (basement) of Festival Hall in Conference Room #6.  Everything about these facilities are first-class.1  The classroom comfortably seats 60 people and provides all the high tech accoutrements such as two large projection screens, LCD projector, computer, and dry erase board.  The JMU staff and students welcomed us warmly, making every effort to accommodate us.  The Festival Hall building also houses several restaurants, open till 8:00 PM and a convenience store & smoothie stand that is open until midnight.  The "C-Store" manager told us he was glad to be able to serve us.  We were well taken care of, to say the least.

Professor Charles W. Doughty taught ten weeks (each Tuesday night, 7-9 PM) on The Apocalypse to a class which averaged 25 students, and also some visiting students from JMU.  On October 28, 2008, one week before the presidential election, Barack Obama decided to make an appearance at JMU on 48 hours notice, causing great chaos, and shutting down all surrounding campus parking lots.  That evening, 21 dedicated students parked at the Walmart Crossing parking lot, and walked the 3 or 4 football field lengths to get to class.  The subject was Revelation chapter 6; how God sends out the horses of war, economic recession, pestilence, and death to punish disobedient nations.  Throughout the semester, the high-tech feel of the classroom was very impressive as Professor Doughty's outlines were projected onto two large screens on his left and right, and even his handwritten (scribbled) notes were enlarged and could be deciphered!  A computer was also handy in case Professor "D" needed to show his power point illustrations.

The highlight of the semester was our last class and banquest which was held at the Golden Corral restaurant in Harrisonburg, (Rt. 33 East) on Nov. 11.  A delegation of 36 students, guests, and family members (including an additional 14 children), convened to receive their certificates, hear a final lecture, and enjoy some fellowship.  Professor "D" also put in overtime during the last four weeks by conducting a church management clinic from 5:00 to 6:45 PM for several students interested in leadership.  It is our desire to continue to expand the CKC ministry in the Harrisonburg community and on the JMU campus, where students will always be welcome to visit.  The location map is given at bottom.2  To register, or for further information, contact: genesis1@northriver.coop or (540) 476-2954.
